LO4: Task 5 - Being Able to Prepare Content for a Portfolio
I have several examples of work that I am able to contribute to a portfolio that will be used to feature my work and work that I have contributed to during my time at college and outside of college.
Unit 32:
This was a poster I had created for the Unit 32, a graphics design based unit where we planned, sketched and drafted designs that promoted an event of our choice. I focused mine on a music festival which featured eastern bands and artists that have a rock theme.
Unit 31:
The photography unit features my ability to manipulate and edit photographs that I have taken. I chose a rather obscure theme which featured time and the development of buildings in the city.
Personal Work:
This was during the time that I was still learning how to use Photoshop and the time I picked up a lot of interest in graphics design. It was only for personal use and it was an experiment of sorts in what I can do in Photoshop. These were made around 2013. There are examples below of what I have created from 2015 to 2016.

LO3: Task 4 - To Understand My Potential Career and Paths
The career path I'm choosing between is the BA (Honours) Graphics Design degree in Sheffield Hallam University or possible some form of graphics design apprenticeship within or outside Sheffield. My interests lie in graphics design but I am open to other forms of apprenticeships such as being an IT technician but my main focus is trying to acquire a graphics design degree.
Required/Necessary qualifications:
Work Experience:
There are a few opportunities that I could get in to such as applying or volunteering to help with graphics based jobs at events to gain some experience i.e. Festivals and events (Doc Fest?). I could also volunteer in other sectors of media such as radio and film but focusing on trying to promote with graphics, for example: Sheffield Live or Showroom.
Higher Education:
I have been looking at a few courses from Universities and looking through apprenticeships that focus on the graphics sector of the media industry and I have found 2 University degrees that I may want to focus on:
1. Sheffield Hallam University
https://www.shu.ac.uk/study-here/find-a-course/ba-honours-graphic-design-fulltime
2. University of Edinburgh
http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/undergraduate/degrees/index.php?action=view&code=W210
The Future:
After any of these potential career paths, I would like to apply for companies that I've held interests in for a while. Some even feature internships. This includes:
Digital Extremes:

Riot Games:

LO2: Task 3 - Evaluating my own resources
For me to progress in my my chosen career, I will have to apply for a university degree such as a BA (Honours) Graphics Design or an apprenticeship that features a industry level of work (Level 4 and above) in Graphics Design. For the University Degree, 300 points including at least 160 points from two GCE/VCE A levels, or BTEC National qualifications, or one AVCE double award. AS levels and Key Skills may count towards these points. I am also required to have an English and Maths GSCE. To enter higher education or gain employment in the film/media industry, I need to produce a portfolio showcasing what I have contributed or developed myself.
Resources:
For my portfolio, I should be able to use my work from several units that I have done over 2 years at college. Not only did it provide me with work that I can use as examples and portfolio material, I have also gained a substantial amount of knowledge about the media industry. In terms of graphics, I have learnt several techniques in how to create graphics, have been taught how to use a program in ways that I personally have not experienced and even given the opportunity to use programs I did not have access to due to restrictions etc. In the film/cinematography side of media, I have learnt various forms of camera work/style, different types of angles and shots, mise en scene and how to arrange and create the appropriate setting for certain film themes.
Most of my interests and main development went in to further developing my skill in Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere. This was mainly from learning photography styles and knowing what and how to edit photographs from Unit 31. The skills learnt for Premiere was from doing some work in Unit 46.
Financing:
If I choose to go to University to do a University degree, I will most likely need to acquire a student loan to pay for my tuition fee that I will have to pay off later after finishing my degree. If and after I finish my University degree, I will hopefully be employed by a company in the graphics sector as soon as possible so that I will able to accrue the money to pay off the student loan. This can either be through a apprenticeship or a degree job. Afterwards, If I am wanting to start my own graphics business, I will also have to adjust and plan my budget after acquiring a job.
Contacts:
If I am in need or a requiring any help, I will be able to contact my tutors from UTC Sheffield i.e.
- Victoria Allen
- Alicia Edwards
- Tom Helliwell
As they have gone through a media course that I will most likely be going through if I choose to go through a University degree or apprenticeship.
Works/Examples (Both from work done at college and personal work):
